Unpredictable governance, disregard for voter-approved measures, and efforts to override lawful outcomes through procedural maneuvers create uncertainty that affects investment, public trust, and long-term planning. Businesses, families, and local governments rely on stable rules that are applied consistently rather than on shifting standards driven by political convenience. Respecting voter decisions and constitutional processes reduces costly legal battles and ensures public resources are spent on services not power struggles.

Human dignity

In a democracy, human dignity is rooted in the principle that every voice matters. When voters approve an initiative, it undermines public trust if legislators dismiss that decision, blame judges for upholding it, or try to bypass it through tactics like court stacking or repeated initiatives. Dignity is upheld when elected officials recognize the limits of their power, respect lawful outcomes, and engage with voters honestly, instead of looking for ways to sidestep voter will.

Real solutions

• Honor voter-approved initiatives: Respect the outcomes of lawful ballot initiatives, including redistricting reforms, as expressions of the people’s will.
  

• Defend judicial independence: Uphold the role of courts in interpreting and enforcing the law without retaliation, intimidation, or efforts to reshape the judiciary to achieve preferred political outcomes.
  

• Reject procedural end-runs around democracy: Oppose attempts to overturn voter decisions through court manipulation, repeated referenda, or externally driven signature campaigns designed to nullify prior votes rather than engage voters in good faith.
  

• Clarify the role of elected representatives in a constitutional republic: Affirm that in a constitutional republic, legislators are entrusted to govern within constitutional limits and in service to the people, not to override voter decisions or govern without accountability once elected.
  

• Strengthen limited and small government principles: Support a government that exercises restraint, respects boundaries between branches, and limits its own power by honoring checks, balances, and voter participation.
